I did wake up in the middle of the night and watch The Royal Wedding today. Ten in the morning London time was four in the morning Central Standard Time in the States. And of course it was absolutely beautiful. This event brought back out my fascination and secret obsession with the British monarchy and British history in general. As much as the United States is our own country, we lack the sense of national pride and regal-ness of having royal monarchs. As "independent" as we are from Britain, their kings and queens are still our kings and queens to follow, love, and pray for. I spent all day watching royal weddings on YouTube of William and Kate, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, the Queen Mother Elizabeth and King George VI, and Princess Diana's funeral. Elton John singing Candle in the Wind makes me think of her every time and it makes me cry.

This is definitely a test email to see if the mobile blogging I set up works. I probably will never use this, but I'm bored in the rain and wanted to try it out. :)

It's been a long time since I updated. Obviously. Quite a bit has gone on in my sabbatical from blogging, though! I am now working at Mercy Medical Center as an RN. :) And yes, I did pass NCLEX first time! 220 questions into the test, mind you. Horrifying. The test definitely lived up to the hype about being a fairly terrifying experience. I am grateful I won't have to do that ever again. In any case, I am doing well as a new nurse and am fully off of my orientation period at the hospital. I love where I work, and I hope I don't have to leave any time soon!
In current events in Northwest Arkansas, it has been raining basically non-stop for a week. On Good Friday, we had several tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in the area, with a particularly ominous wall cloud passing over the hospital with some rotation in it, causing us to basically go into lockdown, not letting anyone - coworkers or patient family members - leave the building. In retrospect, since no tornadoes actually occurred in the Pinnacle/Rogers area, it was a rather exciting experience. Yesterday, I was at work during a ferocious flash flood of the entire area. I was able to get home since the flash flooding had gone down by 7:30pm when I left work, but many roads and homes were flooded all evening. Let's just say I am more than sick of spring severe weather and am ready for an Arkansas summer drought. I don't know what the deal is with our area and accumulation of excessive precipitation this year. (Recall the Snowpocalypse: 23 inches of snow, not fun)
The last bit of life update I will leave off with is a picture of our puppy, Abigail. She is seven months old and some kind of lab/other stuff mix. She is a very naughty puppy, very silly, but we love her. :)

oh! darling
I have never studied more for a test. This test is comprehensive over my entire nursing school career. I have taken six 60 question and one 90 question practice tests in the past three days. I'll re-take the three I got less than a 70% on tomorrow. The test is Tuesday. It determines if I graduate this program or not. It has more weighing on it than any test I have taken so far. I'll take another one of those in the next couple of months...the NCLEX...but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
I'll find out the results of my interview with Mercy on Tuesday, also. That should be a big day for me, right? Could be really good or really bad. I would really like to get this job at Mercy. It was my first choice hospital and one of the jobs is in pediatrics which is my specialty of choice. I am extremely nervous about getting a job. It is probably my number one stressor right now.
In other news, this week, my roommate made some oatmeal chocolate chip cookies from scratch that may have been the best cookies I have ever eaten. It is an interesting type of cookie (I think a lot of people have never tried it!), but this recipe is so delicious! They baked perfectly, and I ate them compulsively the day she baked them. Here is the link to the recipe she used: Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies They are amazing! The next cookies she's trying are white chocolate caramel. Can't wait! :)
This section I am writing for my boyfriend's benefit :) He made fun of me for blogging (even though he does stuff more worthy of poking fun at which I will detail shortly) and said I was writing about him, so of course, that's what I'm doing. He has a chat channel on geekshed.net that has scripted bots and lots of other nerdy kids that talk to each other on it. I'm on it, too, so I guess I can't make too much fun of him :). We use the chat room to promote his tech blog and website. The blog currently is taking every day to post about one great technology gift for Christmas. Today's gift is the iPhone 4, and tomorrow's will be a Neato Room Vacuum (like a Roomba). I follow him on here, but the link to his blog is here: The Underground . I'm also on his website which he uses to manage his chat channel and sort of advertise some services (hosting server space, making Flash stuff for websites, making logos, etc). He's still working on that, but it's coming along. I'm on there listed as his CFO :). Novice Productions . Fun, right?
To close, here's a little life lesson: cherish your closest friends. When people wrong you, cherish the friends you still have even more. And let them know it. :)

This is an update just to update. Not much is going on except school right now. I still don't have a job which is increasingly worrying to me. There is not much I can do about that, though. I do have a new graduate screening interview with Mercy on Thursday. This isn't for a job, but "it is so when there are jobs available we know who to call." That's what they said.
I finished critical care today. I'm pretty sure I passed that test. Not by much, though. I didn't get enough studying in, I think. I have a test tomorrow that should be easier and a paper due by the end of the weekend. Then I have the end-of-program comprehensive standardized test next Wednesday. That should be interesting.
There was one thing that happened last week that, I guess, can be classified under life-lessons learned. I found out just how hateful and low people can be when they hold a personal grudge against you (or someone you care about). When it is some of your closest friends who do it to you, how do you respond to that? How do you know who to trust. We're still figuring this situation out, but it definitely shows you how many of your friends know the true meaning of friendship. It's the people who tell you when you're about to be stabbed in the back (even though they were told not to or else suffer consequences) because it's the right thing to do. But I digress.
Corey and I made another adventure to Das Fort (aka Fort Smith) yesterday. My mom bought everyone in our family tickets to see A Christmas Carol which was put on by my home church. I thought it was great! I love A Christmas Carol...it's usually a goal of mine to see it once a year. I have a few Christmas season traditions and that is one of them. Here soon it will be high time for me to watch It's A Wonderful Life for the first time this Christmas season! It is my all-time favorite movie, and I am going to try to persuade Corey to watch it with me.

now my feet won't touch the ground
Today was my last day of clinical in nursing school. It's surreal to think that what I've been working toward for four and a half years is finally almost complete. All that stands in my way of getting my undergraduate degree is two tests and a paper. I'm not sure I'll know what to do with myself when I'm done with school. I've been a full-time student since I was five years old. We'll see. :)
In other news, I've been in a baking mood lately. I love to bake cookies and pride myself on being able to bake them well. I baked the most perfect sugar cookies with Christmas colored sprinkles yesterday. I made them for the school nurse I worked with in clinical, the office staff and the CBI staff at the school. They turned out perfect. I mean, perfect. Perfect crispy golden bottom with a pretty white sprinkly top. I impressed myself. I'm going to try to do it again, but we'll see. :)

life in technicolor
18 days until the University of Arkansas School of Nursing pinning ceremony! Then I'll be done with my formal education at least for a while :)
Also, GO HOGS!! :) If Auburn wins the SEC Championship game, it's off to the Sugar Bowl for the Razorbacks (due to our amazing #7 ranking in the week 14 BCS standings)! Totes fun!!!!!
Turns out this past Saturday was the most exhausting day I've had in a while. I drove to Little Rock and back, and almost (ok, I did a couple of times) fell asleep on the way from Das Fort to Fay. When Corey and I got back to Fayetteville, I got half a second wind and we took apart his desktop computer to replace the hard drive. Fun, right?
Sunday we slept all day. Literally. Woke up at 4pm. Then I made at home P.F. Chang's (delicious. orange chicken.) and made a poster on nursing care for patients with hepatitis for my critical care class.
Also tried to brainstorm topics for a website. Like, if you wanted to see a website all about anything, what would you want it to be about? I am not that creative, so I couldn't think of anything, but I'm still brainstorming.
We tend to find the nerdiest things possible to do with our time, but I wouldn't change a thing. :) In fact, right now we're making a game that is like a "Choose your own adventure" game. He's scripting it on the interwebs. This is too fun. I'm making up the story in classic Ruby storytelling style. It's a horror story set around Christmas. Grand. :)
